Great mix of shaded hike, scenic views, consistent ascent, not a lot of people, and an awesome lake. Will not repeat the mantra on past trip reports about the road. Take your time, no need to rush.

We arrived around 1330, could park right by the trail entrance. There are many cars parked along the road close to the trailhead, can only pass on one direction at a time. The trail is in very good condition. WTA Pro Tip: For a fun loop hike, start on the Dirty Face Ridge Trail, summit Townsend and head south on the 839 trail until you meet the Silver Lakes Trail and take it over the pass and down into the Silver Lakes valley.
